I chose this poster because I am very thankful for the men and woment who serve our country. I know I could never be a soldier. This poster is very specific about telling "YOU" how much our servicemen and women SACRIFICE for our freedom. The red color of "YOU" make it clear that the person that is reading this poster gets the point that it is directed to them. I think we use the word sacrifice in our everyday lives that we again, take things for granted. I sacrifice my time away from watching a football game to finish my homework, or I sacrifice staying up late, not getting enough sleep to party because my friend is getting married, etc. We all say things like that. I had never seen this poster and another interesting thing I noticed was the red sun or moon? behind the soldier. I might mean that it's a brand new day, the soldier has sacrificed his life so that "you" can have a brand new day to live. What do you all think?

I agree with your analysis of the poster. At times we don't really understand what is going on in our lives. We have to make the right choices, and most of the time our choices come with sacrifices.

Wow! You really brought up great points of the meaning of the poster! This poster represents the truth about many of the soldiers during WWII and even the war going on right now. I had never thought about the fact that the sun behind the soldier could represent the sacrifice he did for keeping our freedom intact.

Considering the pose of the soldier, what meanings do you think might be suggested by red? Maybe violence or death? Also, what do you notice about the use of lighting in the image? It's sort of shadowy and dark - to set the mood as sad. I also notice that you can't really see the soldier's face. This might suggest that this could be any soldier - someone we know even. It makes the image universals.

Red is a very noticable color and it always stands out in any picture, so that is why I believe they used the red color for the sun instead of yellow, because yellow to me represents happiness. Also, it's like a mud red not exactly red. The mood is dark and deary and it does look like it the sun is going down representing that this was the soldiers last day on this earth. I never thought of the gender of the poster but yes, it does look universal. The only reason for thinking it was a male because of the words they have "He knew".
